The TracPhone antenna’s gyros continuously measure the rate of vessel motion in three axes and send this data to the antenna’s motor control circuitry to keep the antenna pointed at the satellite. At the factory, each gyro is precisely calibrated to work with the antenna’s main board. Therefore, if you ever have a gyro or main board replaced, you will need to recalibrate.
Important! |
Calibrate the gyros only if directed by KVH Technical Support, and only while the vessel is stationary in calm seas. A poor gyro calibration can reduce the performance of the antenna. |
To calibrate the gyros, follow these steps:
At the ICM’s front panel, press MENUS until the display shows “DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS.”
Press ACCEPT.
At “KVH SUPPORT IP,” press NEXT.
At “CALIBRATE GYROS,” press ACCEPT.
At “PROCEED WITH CAL?,” press ACCEPT.
Verify that the azimuth (AZ), elevation (EL), and skew gyros all pass. If a gyro fails, recalibrate. If it continues to fail, contact KVH Technical Support (see Contacting KVH Technical Support).
Once the gyros are calibrated, the antenna restarts.
