Vessel Track

The Vessel Track page displays the track of the vessel and its historical speed data.

The following Basic features are available to all customers:

  • View the vessel’s track for the past five hours.
  • View the vessel’s speed for the past hour.

Premium Tracking

If Premium Tracking is enabled for the vessel, the following Premium features are available:

  • Extended historical track and speed data (one year)
  • Position reports

Extended Historical Track and Speed Data

With Premium Tracking enabled, you can view the vessel’s track and the range of vessel speeds for any period within the last year, provided the KVH antenna system on the vessel was online during that period. On the Vessel Track page, in the upper-right corner of the time series graph, select the date button. Then select the desired hour, day, or week. The graph will plot the vessel’s speeds for this period. In addition, the map will highlight the segment of the vessel’s track for that period.

Click on any point of the selected track segment or any point of the time series trace to view the following vessel information for that particular point in time, if available:

  • Speed over ground (in knots)
  • Heading
  • Position (latitude/longitude)

In addition to the selected track segment, the map shows the four adjoining segments of the track for context. If you select one of these other segments, the time series graph will switch to show the speed data for that period.

Position Reports

With Premium Tracking enabled, you can download vessel position reports in comma-separated values (CSV) format, which can then be saved to a spreadsheet or database. Two reports are available:

  • Latest Position Report: Contains the latest known vessel position reported by the vessel’s terminal.
  • Weekly Position Report: Contains all positions reported by the vessel’s terminal for the past eight days. This report is updated four times per day.

To access these reports, contact KVH’s Airtime Services Department. KVH will set up a token-based URL (web address) for each report that you request. To protect your data privacy, the URLs include an embedded secure token. You may request new URLs and tokens at any time.

Note: Any periods of satellite blockage, service outages, and other events may create gaps in the reported positions. It is the responsibility of the vessel operator to maintain the antenna system to minimize blockage conditions and downtime.

Purchasing Premium Tracking

If you are the fleet billing manager or Airtime Services main contact, and you would like to upgrade to Premium Tracking service, contact KVH’s Airtime Services Department. Once Premium Tracking is enabled, you will be charged a flat fee on a per-vessel basis. This fee is recurring and will appear each month on your KVH invoice. It cannot be prorated for a partial month’s use.
