Software Updates

KVH periodically releases new versions of software to enhance the performance and capabilities of the system. While your system is online, it will receive these updates over the satellite connection at no cost to you. However, if the system has just been installed or has been offline for some time, you can update it to the latest software at any time. When you update the software, the new version simply overwrites the previously installed version.

A single software package includes updates to all system components in the antenna and BDU, with the exception of the VSAT modem. Modem updates are only downloaded automatically via the satellite connection. When a modem update is in progress, the system's web interface shows “Connection Unknown” for Service Status.

Hxx_AC-BDU-<version no.>.bin

There are two methods to choose from to update the software, as explained below.

Using Your Computer to Update Software

To update the software using your local computer, follow these steps:

First, you need to save the latest software update file to your computer. KVH-certified technicians can download this file from the KVH Partner Portal. Customers can get this file from KVH Technical Support.
Connect your computer to the BDU’s network.
At the system's web interface, go to the Software Updates page.
Under Update Software from this Computer, select Choose File.
Navigate to and select the update file saved on your computer (it has a .bin extension).

Using the Mobile App to Update Software

If you have an Apple iOS or Google Android smartphone or tablet, and your device has an Internet connection, you can use the KVH Connect app to download the latest software and upload it to the system. You can download the App for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
