Vouchers

In addition to setting up named onboard users with data allocations, the Crew Internet service allows you to create vouchers that provide a set amount of data usage over one or more WAN connections.

IMPORTANT! Vouchers can only be set up on an account and vessel terminal(s) that have Crew Internet service enabled. See Crew Internet Setup

Two voucher types are available:

  • User Voucher: Assigned to individual crew members as a one-time boost to their allocation; kicks in when their data allowance over the WAN connection is exhausted
  • Guest Voucher: Generates a unique user name and password that permits a certain amount of data usage over the designated WAN connection(s); provides Internet access to non-crew members, such as charter guests

Once voucher profiles with data allocations are created in KVH Manager, the designated Onboard Manager can create and distribute them to crew members and guests, as required.

Adding a New Voucher Profile

Note: The process is identical for both user vouchers and guest vouchers.

  1. Select Fleet Tools.
  2. Select the applicable account/group that has Crew Internet enabled. (It has a globe icon next to it.)
  3. Select the Crew Internet tab.
  4. If no voucher profiles have been set up yet, select New Voucher Profile. Otherwise, select Manage Vouchers then New Voucher Profile.
  5. Select either New Guest Voucher Profile or New User Voucher Profile, whichever applies.
  6. Enter a name and description for this voucher profile.
  7. Enter an allocation amount (in MBs) for each WAN connection over which you would like to provide data usage.
  8. Select Create Voucher Profile.

The Onboard Manager(s) can now create copies of this voucher as often as they wish onboard vessels with Crew Internet-enabled terminals.

Assigning an Onboard Manager

IMPORTANT! The Onboard Manager(s) can issue any number of vouchers at their discretion. Be sure they understand this responsibility.

  1. Select Fleet Tools.
  2. Select the applicable account/group that has Crew Internet enabled. (It has a globe icon next to it.)
  3. Select the Crew Internet tab.
  4. Select Manage Users.
  5. Select the edit (pencil) button next to the desired user in the list.
  6. Select User is Onboard Manager
  7. Select Save.
