Alternate WAN Option

The TracNet system can connect to an available alternate source of Internet connectivity, either automatically or manually (see WAN Selection). In Automatic mode, the TracNet system will connect to the alternate WAN whenever it is available – it will be the preferred connection. An example of an alternate WAN might be an Ethernet connection to your marina's Internet service or your cellular hotspot.

To add your alternate WAN connection to the TracNet system's configuration, follow these steps:

  1. Change the gateway IP address of your alternate network device to 198.19.55.1. Refer to the device's user documentation for details.
  2. Select a port configuration on the TracNet system that includes an "Alternate WAN Egress" (see Port Configurations).
  3. Using an Ethernet cable, connect your alternate device's LAN port to the designated "Alternate WAN Egress" port on the TracNet system's Hub (usually port 4).

Note: KVH Manager will not report alternate WAN data usage.

Starlink Configuration

The TracNet system can also be configured to use a Starlink antenna system as the alternate WAN connection.

Note: The Starlink system must be activated under a Starlink Maritime service plan.

Follow these configuration steps:

  1. Connect the Starlink system to Ethernet port 4 on the TracNet Hub via a Starlink Ethernet adapter, if applicable, connected in-line between the Starlink power supply and Starlink Wi-Fi router (see diagram below).
  2. Enable Bypass Mode on the Starlink Wi-Fi router. For more information, refer to the Starlink FAQ
  3. Select a new port configuration that supports Starlink (see Port Configurations).
