Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing a problem with the LTE system, first check the conditions below. If you are unable to resolve the issue, please contact your local KVH dealer or KVH Technical Support.

Power Connection

If the power light on the PoE injector is not lit green, the system is not receiving 12 VDC or 24 VDC power. Check the power cable. Refer to the Installation Guide for wiring details.

RF Interference

High-power transmissions from a radar or radio antenna can interfere with LTE signals. If the LTE antenna was installed within the beam path of the radar (it's mounted on the same plane), you might need to relocate it.

Wi-Fi Issues

If your mobile device does not detect the LTE system's Wi-Fi network, you might be beyond the range of the wireless access point, located inside the LTE antenna dome. You can extend the Wi-Fi range belowdecks by connecting an external wireless access point (WAP) to the network.

If you are within 30 feet (9 m) of the LTE antenna and still can't see the network, make sure the built-in Wi-Fi is enabled. See Built-in Wi-Fi Settings.

If you're using a laptop, you might also try connecting directly to the PoE injector's LAN port via an Ethernet cable.

Note: If you are using a third-party Wi-Fi router, refer to the router's user documentation for troubleshooting details.

IMPORTANT! The built-in Wi-Fi can only support data speeds up to 20 Mbps. To enjoy the fastest possible speeds that the LTE system can offer, install a wireless router or access point belowdecks. See Using Your Vessel's Network for details.

Outside Cell Coverage

The LTE antenna provides exceptional coverage far beyond the capability of your phone's built-in antenna. However, as you travel even further away from shore, you will eventually pass outside the extended range of the nearest shore-based cell tower in the service network.

Note: For high-speed broadband connectivity at sea, consider a satellite communications system from KVH. Contact your local KVH dealer to learn more.

Restart the System

Try restarting the system. Disconnect power from the PoE injector, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect it. Cycling power may clear the issue.
